Training and Orientation
Substitute Teacher/Support Staff


Training, Orientation and Processing Services are provided in all school personnel categories.

Minimum requirements for teaching - Baccalaureate degree from an accredited higher education institution and current substitute teaching license. 

Minimum requirements for educational aides/student monitors - High school diploma or equivalent.

 

Substitutes for Trade and Career Tech Programs must meet one of the following requirements for substitute licensure (see attached):

  • Bachelor's degree and current license in the subject area in which they are going to teach, or    
  • Documentation of at least 5 years of work experience in the subject area being taught (some formal training in the subject area is preferable)

TCESC maintains a substitute database of licensed teachers; instructional aides, and all support staff areas.

Substitute categories include: Paraeducator, School Health Service Providers, Secretary, Custodial/Maintenance, Bus Driver.

 

Training and Certification
ParaPro


In accordance with Section 3319.074 of the Ohio Revised Code, anyone working as an educational aide in a core subject area* in programs supported with Title I funds must hold an (active) educational aide permit and meet one of the following requirements:

  • Have the ESEA designation** on the (active) educational aide permit;
  • Have successfully completed at least two years of coursework at an accredited college/university;
  • Have an associate degree or higher from an accredited college/university; OR
  • Pass the ParaPro assessment

*Core subject areas include reading and English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, foreign language and fine arts.

Substitute Employment


Items/Documents needed for Substitute Employment in addition to Criminal Background Checks (applicants must come to the Tri-County Office for processing). Notice: BCII/FBI processing could take up to 30-days to process.
 

If you are interested in substituting with the Temporary, Non-Bachelor Substitute Teacher License, please contact the school district you would like to substitute for directly. 
 

Teacher/Teacher Aide/School Health Services Provider

  • Official college transcripts
  • Copy of your current OHIO teaching certificate or educational aide permit (and proof of successful completion of State approved ParaPro Assessment
  • Fingerprint verification - NOTICE: BCII/FBI processing could take up to 30-days to process.
  • Attend orientation (see Substitute Training, Orientation and Processing Schedules).
  • I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification
    • The individual taking your application will need to see your driver's license and social security card.
       

Secretarial, Bus Driver, Food Service, Custodial, Maintenance

  • License as applicable
  • Fingerprint verification - NOTICE: BCII/FBI processing could take up to 30-days to process.

Administrator (Current School Administration License Required)
