Consultant Services

Special Education Consultants are assigned to the local school districts to assist district personnel in all matters relating to special education. Services provided by Special Education Consultants may include the following:

  • Participate in Intervention Assistance Teams and assist in intervention design using data such as curriculum based measurements to make decisions about interventions
  • Assist in the identification of children who are suspected of having disabilities
  • Observe students in the classroom
  • Assist with behavior intervention planning
  • Assist with Functional Behavior Assessments and Manifestation Determination meetings
  • Provide training for special education staff and others who need current and updated information regarding special education law and practices
  • Serve as District Representative at in-district and out-of-district IEP meetings
  • Provide suggestions and support to special education and regular education staff involved in inclusion practices
  • Provide current information on IEP-writing to intervention specialists
  • Maintain a current database of all students who receive special education services
  • Coordinate services such as audiological services, occupational and physical therapy, home instruction, and transition services
