Wayne County Discipline Center
What is the Wayne County Discipline Center (WCDC)?
The WCDC is an educational alternative to out-of-school suspension. WCDC is a collaborative effort between county school districts and the Tri-County Educational Service Center (ESC).
Program Description
WCDC accepts students for short-term placement. Short-term is defined as a period of one (1) to ten (10) school days. Placed students continue to work on the same schoolwork they would work on if they were still in their home school. WCDC provides an educationally sound solution to out-of-school suspension, as placed students have an opportunity and expectation to complete work that would normally be completed during a suspension.
Cost to Districts
The daily rate for placement in WCDC is $55 per seat. In cases where a student does not serve a full day, the district will still be billed the daily rate. Districts will be billed $30 per day for students who are scheduled to the WCDC but fail to show and where notification was not received by the district prior to or the morning of the student's scheduled placement start date. Billing is completed on a quarterly basis by the Tri-County ESC.
Mission and Goals
The philosophy of the WCDC is to provide a highly-structured environment that serves as an alternative to out-of-school suspension.
