FINE ARTS EVENTS FOR STUDENTS
Tri-County 2011-12 Fine Arts Events Calendar
Tri-County ESC provides educational programs and direct services that contribute to the artistic growth of children by nurturing their artistic interest and abilities, broadening their horizons and enriching their knowledge of the arts while preparing them for a lifetime of continued learning, appreciation, and enjoyment of the arts. All fine arts direct services and programs for students are standards based and developmentally appropriate. These comprehensive fine arts events are structured across art forms (music, visual art, drama/theatre), grade levels (PreK-12), and ability levels (special education, general education, talented and gifted). Many of the Tri-County ESC fine arts events are provided in partnership with area college and community organizations including Wayne Center for the Arts, The College of Wooster, Canton Symphony Orchestra, The University of Akron's Wayne College, the Wooster Symphony Orchestra; as well as The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

PARTNERSHIP PROGRAMS WITH WAYNE CENTER FOR THE ARTS
Tri-County ESC and Wayne Center for the Arts have enjoyed a 25-year history of cooperative planning and programming for education in the arts. In the late 1980s the two organizations developed a major planning document, Literacy in the Arts: A Challenge for the 90s, which outlined strategies to strengthen arts education for all students. Over the past decade this school and community partnership has been recognized by the Ohio Arts Council, Ohio Alliance for Arts Education, The Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education Network, and The Kennedy Center Performing Arts Centers and Schools: Partners in Education Program.
RESEARCH CONDUCTED IN ARTS EDUCATION
The arts education partnership of Tri-County ESC and Wayne Center for the Arts were awarded two major grants from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Washington, D.C. and the Ohio Arts Council to conduct research on the impact of professional development on teachers and students learning.
PHASE 1: Impact of Arts Integration Professional Development on Teachers
The research project was designed to gather the necessary data to link the professional development workshop training for teachers to actual implementation of teaching strategies in the classroom. Twelve teachers attended at least two arts integration workshops and reported on the implementation of teaching strategies learned through the workshops in two-week, four-week, and two-month intervals. The teachers were paired with a curriculum consultant assigned to their school district who provided instructional support services and conducted informal observations of the teachers implementing the teaching strategies and techniques. The teachers developed model lessons demonstrating their ability to adapt the arts integration strategies to actual classroom practice. Results were reported in a publication, "Arts Education Strategies in Action."
PHASE 2: Impact of Arts Integration Professional Development for Teachers on Student Outcomes
The research project was designed to document the relationship between arts integration instructional strategies and student achievement. Teachers conducted classroom-based action research focused on student learning outcomes: cognitive (performance and achievement), affective (attitudes and dispositions), and psychomotor (skills and behaviors). Results were reported in a publication: "Arts Education Strategies in Action: Student Outcomes."
STATEWIDE TRAINING PROVIDED FOR TEACHING ARTISTS
